Position Summary

The Department of Social Work at Western Carolina University (WCU) invites applications for a nine-month fixed term faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position is funded by a 4-year federal grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). A Master’s Degree in Social Work from a Council on Social Work (CSWE)-accredited university is required. A doctoral degree in Social Work or a closely related field, and/or eligibility for licensure as a clinical social worker (LCSW) in North Carolina are preferred.

The successful candidate will teach in the Social Work Department’s MSW program and manage the day-to-day operations of a HRSA-funded Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training (BHWET) program grant. He/she will coordinate with field education faculty and staff at WCU and will meet with field instructors at project field placement sites to assure fidelity to the project goals and objectives. He/she will be responsible for data collection and data entry and will lecture in Integrated Healthcare and Interprofessional Education courses across the curriculum. This individual will also assist in recruiting graduate students for participation in the project, developing new integrated care field education placement sites in collaboration with the Director of Field Education, and coordinating at least two continuing education programs for health care providers annually. Experience in data collection and management, community engagement, and scholarship as well as a strong commitment to working with diverse student, faculty, and community populations is desired.

The Department of Social Work at WCU has both BSW and MSW programs accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, is one of several quality professional programs within the College of Health and Human Sciences, and has a record of consistently producing successful graduates. WCU, one of the 16 state supported institutions in the University of North Carolina system, is located in picturesque Cullowhee, North Carolina, 52 miles west of Asheville. The university also maintains an instructional site at Biltmore Park between Asheville and Hendersonville, NC. The main campus is located near the Great Smokey Mountains National Park, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the Qualla Boundary, home to the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. The department is housed in a new technologically advanced 160,000 sq. ft. Health and Human Sciences building located on WCU’s millennial campus, where university faculty and students partner with private and government industries to support research and hands-on educational opportunities for students.
