Position Summary

The NC New Teacher Support Program (NC NTSP) is seeking an Instructional Coach to manage and develop new teachers to envision and achieve results that ensure the short and long term success of their students. NC NTSP Instructional Coach will manage a cohort of teachers to establish ambitious and inspiring vision and goals, plan purposefully, and engage in data-based problem solving to increase student achievement. Instructional Coaches will work in assigned public P-12 schools in western NC and will be supervised by a Regional Project Director based in the College of Education and Allied Professions at Western Carolina University. The anticipated service areas will be counties west of Jackson County. NC NTSP Instructional Coach is expected to: – Collaborate in a professional environment – Collect and analyze data as well as implement related strategies – Model research-based best practices – Identify practical, research-based resources (electronic, paper-based, human) to assist teachers in meeting their goals – Have crucial conversations with teachers about maintaining high expectations for students – Question in a way that promotes reflective practices – Understand and work with diverse populations The Instructional Coach must be: – Approachable and empathetic – Influencing and motivating – Outcomes-oriented – Willing to travel between assigned schools, to the Western Carolina University region, and to professional development meetings associated with the NC NTSP – Willing to work some weekends and evenings

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institutiion and current NC teaching license required -Two years of successful teaching experience with strong record of measurable results -Knowledge of the NC state curriculum standards -Successful experience leading adult professional development -Demonstrable passion for teaching and commitment to the goals of the NC NTSP -Ability to work independently with strong organization and time management skills -Effective written and oral communication skills interacting with a variety of stakeholders -Strong business practice and technology skills

Preferred Qualifications

Record of successful experience with diverse students in low-performing schools -Experience with NC curricula at the assigned grade levels -Familiarity with research-based best practices -Record of ability to analyze assessment data and guide appropriate strategies
