Position Summary

The WaLC Administrative Support Associate administers the WaLC and MTC budgets; manages the collection of confidential information regarding students’ use of services; coordinates with other offices to provide secure dissemination of sensitive information to university officials; collects, analyzes, and produces reports on data from internal and external sources; serves as lead trainer for students on use of GradesFirst software, and acts as a resource for students, faculty, and staff who utilize GradesFirst; manages the WaLC and MTC websites and social media; serves as the “front line” of response for clients (students, faculty, and staff) and hires, trains, and supervises student office assistants to facilitate the daily flow of student/tutor traffic; coordinates work schedules for tutors, Writing Tutors, academic skills consultants, Supplemental Instruction Leaders, and office assistants, both on the main campus and at HHS and Biltmore Park; plans and coordinates an annual Tutor Certification and Awards Reception, bi-annual employee training, and info fairs for academic support units; coordinates WaLC/MTC representation for University Open House and Orientation; and coordinates schedules for three annual Advisory Board meetings. Additionally, the ASA maintains all student employee records, including hiring documents for non-work study, work study, and graduate assistants; timesheets; GradesFirst accounts; Blackboard employee access; training hours; and tutoring hours for CRLA certification. Finally, the ASA applies knowledge of university, WaLC, and MTC policies and procedures to solve problems, recommend changes/improvements, and implement new technology or procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position

Strong interest in working with students; excellent written and oral communication skills; customer service, problem solving, organizational and computer software skills. Able to work effectively as part of a team as well as independently.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree. Experience in report writing and facility with a variety of office software/technologies.
